There are people who go to the beach in winter on purpose. They bring a jacket, don't mention the cold, and stay until the light goes because the light is the whole point. Deadwood Dromana is full of them — a beachfront saloon on the Dromana foreshore with a hundred whiskies and a country jukebox and the energy of somewhere that doesn't care what day it is. 

We pit-smoked whole oranges and soaked them in Australian whiskey until the whiskey tasted like a decision. Deep, warm, burnt caramel and smoke. This is their drink. You know if you're one of them.
